On Friday, May 6, students from Ai’s Fashion Honors Group
participated in a very unique event.
Hertz Jewelers opened its third retail location in Boynton Beach, and
decided to combine its grand opening celebration with a fête paying
tribute to military veterans.

Owner Scott Hertz has always had a passion for honoring
America’s heroes, thus began working with Forgotten Soldiers Outreach, Inc., a
nationally-recognized organization founded by Lynelle Chauncey Zelnar that
sends care package and love to despondent soldiers fighting for our

Hertz recently copyrighted the acronym H.A.V.E., which
stands for Help A Veteran Everyday.
Thus, the Hertz Jewelers Grand Opening & Inaugural H.A.V.E.
Fundraising Gala was set into motion.

The Art Institute’s Fashion Honors Group supplied the event
with five models wearing black cocktail dresses made by fashion design students
as a backdrop for Hertz’s jewelry designs to be worn by the models as
well.  The group also planned and
executed the event from top to bottom.

As the evening came to a close, Scott Hertz generously
provided each of the volunteers with a $100 gift certificate for all of their
hard work.  The evening was a complete
success and left everyone feeling wonderful for helping a truly great cause.

Special thanks to Scott Hertz and Moe Ginsberg for providing
our students with the opportunity to participate in the event; to John Oldham,
Community Relations Manager for the Forgotten Soldiers Outreach, Inc., for
helping students set up the event; to Lynelle Chauncey Zelnar for reminding us

beautiful floral centerpieces; to Alesandra Salon & Spa and Hot Heads Salon
for spending precious time on free updos and manicures; to the New York Pizza

This past Saturday, Macy’s held the “Putting It All Together Event” at The Galleria Mall. Select VIPs were treated to a fashion show featuring top must-haves of the Spring/Summer season.  The show, hosted by special guest Anthony Williams of Project Runway’s Season 7, featured four different segments, with looks for every occasion. The Summer segment consisted of flirty sundresses in bright colors with neutral pumps and metallic accessories. The Best of Prints segment included watercolor, ikat, floral, and geometric textiles. The Sparkle segment showed looks adorned with sequins, beads, metallic thread work, and rhinestones. Finally, the Black and White segment featured mostly white cocktail dresses with hints of black here and there, along with muted metallic accessories.

Midway through the show, Anthony chose two VIPs from the audience to compete in a styling competition. The contestants were presented with the following scenario: They are on a cruise and have just been invited to dinner and cocktails, which will be in exactly 10 minutes.  Thus, they had 10 minutes only to create a hot look appropriate for the occasion.  Behind the runway, an assortment of the season’s “It” pieces was available for the contestants to style their models. Team A’s look consisted of an INC shirtdress, Jessica Simpson pumps, and a BCBG handbag. Team B’s look included a BeBe strapless belted dress, Carlos Santana pumps, and a Michael Kors handbag. The audience was then asked to vote for their favorite look by applauding loudly. Team B won the contest, and received a $100 Macy’s gift card.

The show was a great success; with the VIPs purchasing looks right off the runway!  With everything a girl could possibly want to create awesome looks for the upcoming spring and summer seasons, I know I’m definitely going to Macy’s!  See you there!

A special thanks goes out to all of the behind-the-scenes staff that made this fabulous event possible: Alana Bryant, Shivana Narace, Elisa Santiago, Bri Sharpe, and Haley Walker. You ladies rocked!
