Rhiannon Schwegal, Katherine Torregiosa, Jean Baptiste Riviere are earth day winners

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale Fashion Design students participated in Earth Day on Saturday, April 20, 2013, in the City of Sunrise, Florida. These students chose clothing from Good Will and “up-cycled” these garments with a twist for this Eco-chic fashion show. On the runway, short summer dresses, rompers, trendy tops and skirts as well as a stunning long dress made out of sheets were showcased.
First place winner was Rhiannon Schwegal, and she received a $100 gift card from Aveda. Her design was a beautiful, long dress with a embellishment on the shoulder. The dress was made out a gold sheet, red silk pants and a grey tie-dyed t-shirt.
Second place winner was Katherine Torregiosa with a jumper made out recycled denim, silk pajama pants and a gold curtain.
Third place winner was Jean-Baptiste Riviere with a short, pastel colored dress, constructed out of a floral button shirt and a light pink tablecloth.
This Earth Day show was a family oriented event, where all the attendees had fun and enjoyed a beautiful eco-chic fashion show at Sawgrass Sanctuary Park.
The Fashion Honors Group along with Instructor Chrisa Tatakis and Director Sheila Walden organized and executed the fashion show.

Earth Day

On April 14th 2012, the fashion honor students at the Art Institute at Ft Lauderdale put together a fashion show for the Sunrise’s Earth Day Festival. The Sunrise Earth Day festival was held at the Sunrise Sanctuary and started at 10am and latest till 4pm. Fashion design students were asked to redesign and construct garments from recycled goods selected from Goodwill. After our fashion show took place a $100 gift card to Joann’s fabric was given to Mercedes Brunelli, the designer that did the best job creating a garment made out of ties and bed sheets. Our project manager for this event was Emily Freedman who received praise from the city of sunrise coordinator. Aveda provided the makeup for the models and gave gift bags filled with samples for the models.
