Among some of the designs were The Dear Sweet Cupcake Dress designed by Christian Tinson and the Marshmallow Fondue dress Designed by Lorena Pires that placed first place. The garments all were crafted to resemble a food or to have some type of food included in the garments. The show was a success. We look forward to next year’s showing.

Designer wannabees, your time has come!

The 10th anniversary of Miami Fashion Week will open with an up-and-coming South Florida designer showcase.  As Beth Sobel, founder and president of the event states, “We’re trying to give the younger guys or the new guys a chance to have a show”.

Miami Fashion Week will be held at The Soho Studios Wynwood Pavillion in Miami’s new Wynwood Arts District April 9-13, 2008.  The deadline for entry in the designer search is February 15, 2008.  Ten (10) designers will be chosen to show two outfits each in the opening showcase.  Designers will be charged a fee to cover the cost of models.  One designer will be chosen as the Best New Designer in South Florida and presented an award at the closing of Miami Moda & Music Awards show on April 13, 2008.

Designers specializing in women’s wear (day and or evening), menswear, swimwear from Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties are eligible.  The designer must have been in business for a minimum of two (2) years continually designing collections with a minimum of four (4) collections in total or two (2) collections per year.  Each collection must have a minimum of ten (10) pieces.  The label must be sold in at least one (1) store.

Designer hopefuls must submit six (6) photos of actual garments (NO SKETCHES) and a biography to:  info@miamifashionweek.com.  All designers submitting photos will be invited to attend the show and the seminars on business and trends hosted by Global Purchasing Group and Citibank during the fashion week.
